Shannonbridge Fishing Report …Dated 5th June 2007

Weather was a little less windy than of late and sunny on occasion.

River level is still low.

- Alf Appleby from Doncaster fished the Hot Water stretch on a windy

27th May and used maggot and sweetcorn to catch five tench.

Best was over 6 lbs and the others all over 4 lbs. Load of rudd and roach

made for enjoyable day.

- Ashley Adams from Cannock fished a Backwater on a rainy windy 30th May

and used 3 or 4 red maggot on a size 16 hook to catch roach / bream hybrids for

a bag of 15 lbs 13 Ozs. Best fish 1 lb 4 Ozs. Enjoyable day in the rain and wind.

- Russell Adams from Cannock recorded two catches. On 30th May he fished a Backwater. He cut out a new swim and used a waggler and caster / maggot to

catch 11 roach / bream hybrids that weighed 9 lbs.

Next day he fished the River Suck at Correen Ford on a sunny showery day

And used triple red maggot with a waggler to catch 25 roach and skimmers

that weighed 10 lbs. Like many other anglers Russell found that at 2.00 pm

they went off the feed.

- Local angler Aidan Kelly noticed what he thought was a tench in the water

where he generally moors his boat. On June 1st in fine weather he proved he was correct.

Fishing with worms on the float, Aidan caught four tench between 5 lbs and 3.5 lbs.

Why not ask Aidan where he moors his boat.

-Andy Leatherbarrow from Culcheth fished at Correen Ford on June 1st and used

maggot and worm with a feeder to catch 16 good fish. Fished good early on.

- Jack Conway also from Culcheth fished Correen Ford on a warm June 1st and

used feeder with maggot and sweetcorn to catch 40 fish. Rudd to 1 lb, hybrids to 1.5 lbs and perch to 1 lb.

- Bill Reeves from Bath fished the Grand Canal for three days in cloudy and bright conditions. Bill caught plenty of small stuff on 25th May with maggot and float.

On 26th May he caught 7 tench using the same methods. On June 1st he caught 61 fine rudd and roach on the float with maggot.

- Mary Reeves from Bath records that 28th May was sunny and warm when she fished the Boora Lake where she caught a 4.75 lbs tench with maggot.

- Terry Norris from Bath records that on a warm and windy 29th May he fished the

Grand Canal from midday to 6.00pm using maggot to catch 8 tench and roach.

- Helmi Huber from Munich on a windy June 2nd fished for pike with a jointed wobbler

and caught two pike. Best one measured 1.04 Metres (R.I.P.) and the smaller one was returned alive. He did not know the rules about killing big pike.

- Madeleine Davis from Dublin fished a Backwater near Shannonbridge on June 3rd

on a nice evening which was fine and dark. Using maggot and sweetcorn she had a fine 18 lbs collection of five bream, best 2.5 lbs, plus roach perch and rudd. Fished until

2.00 am.

- Louise Killeen also fished the Backwater and enjoyed a good evening /night fishing.

Louise caught six bream to 3.5 lbs, roach to 1 lb and rudd. Later it got dark and cold. Stopped fishing at 2.00 am.

The Eckert family from Wurzburg in Germany are starting their holiday cruising on the River Shannon. On 4th June 9 year old Celine Ecker fished with a wobbler near Clonmacnois and caught her first pike measuring 60 cm. Her 6 years old sister, Ayleen Eckert fished at Clonmacnois to catch her first fish, a 30 cm perch using a worm.

- Regular visitors to Shannonbridge The Crompton Brothers have arrived. Nothing of note so far except Michael caught a 5.5 lbs tench fishing on 4th June. Memories of them catching 34 fine tench a couple of years ago when sharing the same swim using about a dozen red maggot on a Size 10 hook.
