Shannonbridge Fishing Report Dated 3rd June 2008

The river level on Monday 2nd June at Shannonbridge was 2.24 metres. The past week was pleasant weatherwise with the odd shower of rain. One night there was heavy rain. Anglers and other boat owners using the floating jetty at Shannonbridge should know that the power points have never been connected.

Waterways Ireland Cards do not operate the showers in the facility at the riverside. Tokens costing 1.50 Euros each are on sale in the shops and pubs and tourist office in Shannonbridge.

- Mike The Pike from England fished the Shannon at Clonmacnois on a windy 27th May using dead bait and feeder and maggot to catch 12 x 1 lb roach and seven small pike. High Wind.

- Ruid Spoor from Holland fished on the Suck on 27th May and used Rapala plugs to catch seven pike to 75 cm. High wind and little sun.

Next day Ruid fished on the Shannon in sunshine and used Aad Dam baits to catch six pike to 50 cm.

- Bonvalet Michael from France fished on the Shannon at Meelick on 27th and 28th May. First day he used dead bait to catch 5 pike measuring 60cm / 80cm / 90cm in high wind. Second day was sunny with a little wind and he used Rapala Marlboro to catch 2 pike 50cm / 70cm. All fish returned alive.

-Guido Klenk from Germany fished the Shannon at Shannonbridge on a cloudy 29th May and caught two pike measuring 75cm and 65cm. Good fishing area.

- Elvi Garnett from Leeds fished on the Royal Canal at Mullingar on 28th May using maggot and pole to catch 7 tench weighing 30 lbs.

- Six regular angling visitors from Sussex baited and fished the same pegs on the Shannon for six days. Each day one of the group volunteered to fish for pike so as to protect the swims. They caught pike weighing 15-8, 14-6, 8-6, and two seven pounders with lots of smaller ones. They recommend lots of baiting and it fishes better early morning and at dusk. From this group –

-Paul Day had 28 lbs of hybrids and roach using feeder and maggot on a sunny 30th May.

-Des ‘Stud’ Goldsmith also used maggot and feeder on the same day to catch 15 lbs of hybrids.

- Alan Simpson on the same day 30th had 31 lbs of bream and hybrids on feeder and maggot.

Note that this group decided to go to new swims on 29th May. Those swims fished poorly and they went back late that evening to their first choice to prebait for next day. They saw bream rolling in their swims and next day they caught their first bream for the week – 3 bream of 4.5 lbs each.

-Anthony Caulfield from Ballinasloe fished the Suck in good weather on 25th May using feeder and varies to catch 42 lbs of bream to 6 lbs and one pike weighing 8 lbs. Lots of pike attacks.

- Mark Dooley from Ballinasloe fished with Anthony on 25th May on the Suck using feeder and dead bait to catch 30 lbs of bream to 5 lbs and two pike that weighed 19.5 lbs and 12.5 lbs.

-Willie Haseley from Duleek in Meath fished on the Shannon on 1and 2 June in sunshine using dead bait to catch 13 pike over the two days weighing from 2.5 to 6 lbs each.

-Alan Haseley fished with Willie and he caught 6 pike on the first day and 14 pike on the second day. His best fish weighed 10 lbs.

- Murail Henri from France fished on the River Suck in good weather on 1st June and used dead bait to catch a pike weighing 4 lbs. Good fishing says she.

-Esnevy Vsan from France fished the Suck on 1st June using maggot to catch to catch three good tench.

Esnevy also used dead bait on the same day to catch one pike of 4 lbs. Apologies for spelling of Esnevy.

- Piotr Tunyka from Poland fished on the Shannon on 1st June using dead bait to catch two pike 92cm and 96cm. Good fish, returned alive, too big.

-Ivan Vandeuren from Belgium fished at Meelick on 29th May using feeder and red maggot to catch 13 kilos of hybrids and skimmers. Next day he fished the same swim and caught 5 kilos of hybrids and small bream. Third day with same methods Ivan caught 2 kilos of hybrids and perch. All in good weather with pike attacking every day.On 1st June Ivan fished on the Grand Canal at Pollough in warm weather using a pole maggot and caster to catch 2 kilos of roach and hybrids. Newly cut floating weed caused problems.

- Goemaere Etienne from Belgium fished alongside Ivan for the four days. First day he used dead bait to catch two pike weighing 13 lbs and 10 lbs. Next day he caught 5 kilos of bream and hybrids using feeder and maggot. Next day Goemaere caught one pike weighing 4.5 kilos. On the Grand Canal next day he used pole feeder and maggot to catch 2.5 kilos of small roach. Cut weed a problem.

-A Ten angler group from Manchester revisited Shannonbridge for the June Bank Holiday and enjoyed excellent weather and fishing. They fished maggot worm and sweetcorn and like the Hot Water where they recorded 58 lbs of bream perch and roach on one day.
