Shannonbridge Fishing Report Dated 3rd June 2008
The river level on Monday 2nd June at Shannonbridge was 2.24 metres. The past week was pleasant weatherwise with the odd shower of rain. One night there was heavy rain. Anglers and other boat owners using the floating jetty at Shannonbridge should know that the power points have never been connected.
Waterways Ireland Cards do not operate the showers in the facility at the riverside. Tokens costing 1.50 Euros each are on sale in the shops and pubs and tourist office in Shannonbridge.
- Mike The Pike from England fished the Shannon at Clonmacnois on a windy 27th May using dead bait and feeder and maggot to catch 12 x 1 lb roach and seven small pike. High Wind.
- Ruid Spoor from Holland fished on the Suck on 27th May and used Rapala plugs to catch seven pike to 75 cm. High wind and little sun.

- Six regular angling visitors from Sussex baited and fished the same pegs on the Shannon for six days. Each day one of the group volunteered to fish for pike so as to protect the swims. They caught pike weighing 15-8, 14-6, 8-6, and two seven pounders with lots of smaller ones. They recommend lots of baiting and it fishes better early morning and at dusk. From this group –
-Paul Day had 28 lbs of hybrids and roach using feeder and maggot on a sunny 30th May.
-Des ‘Stud’ Goldsmith also used maggot and feeder on the same day to catch 15 lbs of hybrids.
- Alan Simpson on the same day 30th had 31 lbs of bream and hybrids on feeder and maggot.
Note that this group decided to go to new swims on 29th May. Those swims fished poorly and they went back late that evening to their first choice to prebait for next day. They saw bream rolling in their swims and next day they caught their first bream for the week – 3 bream of 4.5 lbs each.
-Anthony Caulfield from Ballinasloe fished the Suck in good weather on 25th May using feeder and varies to catch 42 lbs of bream to 6 lbs and one pike weighing 8 lbs. Lots of pike attacks.

All in good weather with pike attacking every day.On 1st June Ivan fished on the Grand Canal at Pollough in warm weather using a pole maggot and caster to catch 2 kilos of roach and hybrids. Newly cut floating weed caused problems.
