On 09 09 09 or Saint Ciaran's Feastday Dick and Kate Silc from USA came
to Shannonbridge looking for relatives.Kate was a Flannery from Hartford
whose Greatgrandfather John Francis emigrated to Hartford in 1855
John Francis was a son of Martin Flannery who lived in Shannonbridge.
John Francis had a son called John Bernard Flannery and he had a son also
called Jofn Bernard who is Kate Silc's father.
Some friend of Kate and John had visited Ireland and took a trip to the
Aran Islands. On Innis Mhor she decided that she wanted to get married on
that island. So some 60 guests flew to Ireland to attend the wedding and
Dick and Kate were included. They took the opportunity to trace the family
tree and stayed for two nights in Ashbrook Farm near Shannonbridge.
We had a walk around Shannonbridge and saw the house where more than likely
her forefathers lived which is the shop last operated by Ritchie Browne.
They had seen Saint Ciaran's Church on Innis Mhor and went to Clonmacnois
that evening to celebrate Saint Ciaran's Feastday.
The next day they called to the Parochial House and went to Tullamore where
they visited the Heritage Center.Hopefully they will find out more news
on the Flannery Family.
Kate has a contact ksilc@mac.com if anyone knows any history of her family.
