Ballinasloe Annual Horse Fair last weekend was blessed with fine
weather and the forecast for the next week has sunshine every day.
Billy Barton,Tipshell,Derby was over at the fair and stayed in
Shannonbridge. Mary Craughwell from Athlone who visits here told
Billy that her daughter Lynn is married in England and lives in
Tipshell. It is a small town with three pubs Billy told Mary.
Garry O Neill from Tyrone was interested in a black and white foal
mare on offer at 11,000 Euros.
A Bl and wh mare was on sale for 43,000 and sold for 30,000 with
2000 luck money one person told us.
A 4 year old Cob B+W was sold for 1500 Sterling by Brian Murray,
Kildangan and he was disappointed with the price.
Brian had a Black Cob 14.1 hands and did not get an enquiry.
Someone told that he saw 2 Cobs sold on Saturday for 70,000
The owner bought them at a recent fair in Borris at 60,000
Alan Kenny Tel 087 6463400 had a 4 year old red and white pony
for sale at 2,000. He was offered 1,000.
The man that bought the snuff for the horse told us that horses,
donkies etc must have a passport with a marking sheet indicating
Markings,(whirls and white stripe). They must have a microchip
inserted in their neck with an individual number.
A Hand is 4 inches.A Cob is a heavier horse of 14 Hands.
A Pony is 14.2 Hands and downwards.
A Jennet has a Frog in his hoof.
A Donkey does not have a Frog in it's hoof.
