Today a Francis Jensen from Geraardsbergen in Belgium stopped by with
his friend. They had travelled using Ryan Air to Shannon for 50 Euros
return (booked 2 months ago). They hired a car and travelled through
Clare Galway Connemara Sligo Donegal Derry and across to Antrim
and down to Roscommon and Shannonbridge since Sunday.
They have three friends in their home town called Max, Freddy and
Clarke and this trio asked them to call to Shannonbridge and say hello
Their town is called after the Saint Geraard and Bergen means hills
or small mountain.
Anyhow I opened an old phot album and there was Max on Page 2.
Mick remembers that Max was in Shannonbridge with his pals many
years ago and they bought a sheep from Louie Darcy. Max was a
butcher and he killed the sheep out on Lamb Island immediately
upstream from the bridge at Shannonbridge.
Francis told us that nowadays Max is in the antique business
and he also sells paving stones for around patios.
Francis has been in Ireland many times and once imported antique
looking cast metal fireplaces that were made in Athy and he sold them
in many countries.
Francis and his pal will surely need another holiday after the travel.
When they get home he is looking forward to going to Italy in
November with Ryan Air. This time his tickets will cost 5 Euros return.
Anyhow greetings to Max and friends and keep well.
