Questions people askQ. Jesus told the Samaritan woman that true worship is ‘in spirit and in truth’, that is, in the sincerity of a person’s own heart and mind, rather than temples or churches. So, why do Catholics insist on going to church to worship?A. Your interpretation of ‘in spirit and in truth’ is misguided. The apostles and others who knew Jesus firsthand did not consider worship to be a purely personal affair but they continued to go to the temple and to meet in their houses for the ceremony of breaking the bread in memory of Jesus. The Eucharist is worship of the Father, through the Son (who is the Truth), in the sanctifying power of the Spirit. (Fr Silvester O’Flynn) ¨¨¨¨

‘The Committee of the Clonmacnois Action Group on 15th Sept met with An Taoiseach Brian Cowen in Clonmacnois NS. This meeting was at his request. The committee conveyed the reasons why the Local Community had rejected the proposed nomination bid for World Heritage Status for Clonmacnois. An Taoiseach confirmed that the bid had been seriously flawed and that it was now stopped. He also agreed that no WH application would be made by the government without the agreement of the local community. The committee requested that he follow up this in writing. An Taoiseach proposed to arrange for a liaison person from the DEHLG to be assigned to the local community. Minutes of the meeting should now be available at local shops.’
