Shannonbridge GAA Club Notes

Junior C Football Championship.

Shannonbridge maintained their unbeaten record with a 3-15 to 0-6 win over Doon on Friday. The half time score was 2-5 to 0-4. This was a good team performance, with the defence was well marshalled by Ciaran Coughlan and good scoring, especially from the returning Harry Kearns (1-4), Adrian Kelly (1-3) and Michael Corbett (0-4).

Team: C. Kelly, M. Moloney, C. Coughlan, C. Kenny, R. Walshe (0-1), E. Keena, J. Killeen, M. Carty, M. Deeley (0-1), Adrian Kelly (1-3), A. Quinn, K. Kearns (1-4), M. Corbett (0-4). Subs: A. Coughlan, J. Guinan (0-1), D. Fitzgerald (0-1), A. Devery (1-0), J. Turley.

Intermediate Football Championship.
Shannonbridge overcame Bracknagh by two points, at Killeigh, on Saturday. This was a difficult game in windy conditions that reduced shooting to a lottery. Shannonbridge played against the elements in the first half, with the score at the interval 0-1 to 0-4. A goal by Bracknagh, at the start of the second half, gave them a six point lead. Shannonbridge found the range and reeled off the scores to finish 0-11 to 1-6.

Team: Donal Corbett, S. Flannery, P. Moloney, M. Darcy (0-1), W. Keena, N. Price (0-1), Darragh Corbett (0-1), J. Ryan (0-1), J. Egan, P. Egan, P. Deeley (0-1), T. Mahon, K. Flannery (0-4), K. Kelly, P. Kelly. Subs: J. Deeley, Anthony Kelly (0-1), E.Egan (0-1).

Shannonbridge / Doon Lottery.
There was no winner of last week’s jackpot. The numbers drawn were 9, 11, 20 and 23 and there were four match three winners. This week’s jackpot is €5,000.

Motorist’s Prayer

Grant me, O Lord, a steady hand and watchful eye
That no one shall be hurt as I pass by.
Thou gavest life, I pray no act of mine
May take away or mar that gift of thine.
Shelter those, dear Lord, who bear me company
From accidents and all calamity.
Teach me to use my car for other’s need;
Nor miss through love of undue speed
The beauty of the world, that thus I may
With joy and courtesy go on my way.
And reach without mishap Eternal Day.

For young people aged 16-35, an opportunity not to be missed to experience the Catholic faith & meet many new friends.  This Festival has been nicknamed the ‘Holy Oxygen’ with over 1000 young people from all corners of Ireland attending last year.  The festival is by donation only.  Free busses available from around the country.  For more info call 01-6753690.  Email: dublin@youth2000.ie; on line www.youth2000.ie
The theme chosen for this year is: ‘The bread that I shall give is my flesh for the life of the world.’
We are keen to encourage local youth to the festival.  In the past we have received great feedback from the young people, and as one youth commented last year, ‘When I arrived I really did not know what to expect, but now I am so thrilled to have made the journey --- it was so fantastic and inspiring, and for the first time in my life I feel as if I met God personally’
