 DAY FOR LIFE  The Catholic bishops of Ireland, England & Wales and Scotland have chosen to focus on domestic abuse as the theme for Day for Life 2019. We wish to raise awareness of the prevalence of this issue across our countries. How can Catholic parishes and communities be places of safety, welcome and assistance? This is a call to action for our parishes, schools and Catholic communities to reflect, learn and act together, so that we can help those suffering from domestic abuse in our parishes, our workplaces and even in our own homes. Knowing what to look for and spotting the signs means that, individually and collectively, we can make a real difference to people’s lives. It is time to start talking and taking action. TWENTY SEVENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR ‘Increase our faith’

Walter Ciszek, a Polish Jesuit priest spent fifteen years in forced labour camps in Siberia. When asked what kept him going during those dark days he replied: ‘It was not I who kept the faith; it was the faith that kept me’. Faith is not always a pleasant, fulfilling experience. It is often just seeing in the dark, but then it is only in the darkness that you can see the stars. As the great Bengali poet and novelist Tagore wrote so eloquently: ‘Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark’. Central to faith is patience. To believe is to plod on, but without faith, life loses its meaning. It is a trust, then, rather than a certainty, a journey rather than an arrival. It’s not the belief that God will do what you want. It’s the belief that God will do what is right. With the disciples in today’s Gospel we pray: increase our faith.

After all, it is because of the prayers and generosity of people just like you that hope, love and joy can continue to be shared with the suffering and neglected. SHANNONBRIDGE TIDY TOWNS   Results came out on Sept 30th last.. 291 Marks scored (274 last year) and the hard working Group have won the endeavour  award for Offaly along with €500.  Well done to all.

BAPTISM MEETING - A baptism preparation meeting for parents of children born in our Pastoral area and to be baptised will take place on Thursday 17th October at 8pm in the Granary, Boher. Please confirm as soon as possible at 057 9336119, Fr. Brendan.

MOORE ICA Paula Gannon Milliner and Pilates Teacher will be our guest speaker at our meeting on Tuesday, 8th October in Moore Hall @ 8:30p.m.  All Welcome

HIGH STREET / BELMONT WOMEN’S GROUP - Mon. 7th Oct., High Street Hall, 8pm.: Clare Keegan, Biokinesiologist will explain an approach to balancing the biochemistry of the body. Traditional muscle testing techniques are used to test the body. Then food intolerances are removed from the diet and toxins eliminated. The body can be nourished with vitamins, minerals and herbal remedies where necessary. New members welcome.
