FEASTDAYS FOR COMING WEEK

Children and Information Technology Anne Marie Lee is a retired Public Health Nurse and Healthcare Tutor and offers the following tips for parents and how to engage with children:

⬧ Decide when to give your child a phone and what type of phone.

⬧ Talk to your child, appropriately 4 their age, about safety in using information technology.

⬧ Once your child has a smartphone, he/she must be warned to be extremely careful who he/she gives their number to.

⬧ Switch on all safety apps on the child’s phone.

⬧ Always have the code for their phone and check it regularly.

⬧ No phone, laptop or TV in the bedroom

⬧ If the phone is missing, block it as you are responsible for the cost of calls made.

⬧ It is illegal to access the phone of an 18-year old without permission

⬧ Encourage socialisation and communication, guide your children in developing their talents. ⬧ Give them opportunities to embrace diversity in race, culture and social status.

So live your life that your autograph will be wanted , not your fingerprints

From our Faith store… extracts from Irish Catechism for Adults (2014 edition)

The Spiritual Works of Mercy Instruct the ignorant; counsel the doubtful; Admonish the sinner; comfort the sorrowful; Forgive injuries; bear wrongs patiently; Pray for the living and the dead. Amen

Corporal Works of Mercy Feed the hungry; give drink to the thirsty; Clothe the naked; shelter the homeless; visit the sick; Visit the imprisoned, Bury the dead. Amen

When on a Summer’s Morn by William Henry Davies When on a summers morn I wake, and open my two eyes, Out to the clear, born-singing rills, my bird-like spirit flies. To hear the Blackbird, Cuckoo, Thrush, or any bird in song; and common leaves that hum all day without a throat or tongue.

And when Time strikes the hour for sleep, back in my room alone, my heart has many a sweet bird’s song – and one that’s all my own.

William Henry Davies was born in Wales. He had a hard life, and spent much of his early years on the roads in the UK and in the USA. In 1908 he published an autobiography and began publishing poetry in 1911. He found happiness in his marriage and continued to support his family through his writing. His most famous poem is “What is this life if full of care Prayer of Saint Francis Lord, help me to face this day quietly, easily; To lean on your great strength trustfully, restfully; To wait for the unfolding of your will patiently, serenely; To meet others peacefully, joyfully; And to face tomorrow confidently, courageously. Amen

Missionary of Joy Heavenly Father, help us… Count our blessings, not our crosses; Count our gains, not our losses; Count our joys, not our woes; Count our friends, not our foes; Count our courage, not our fears; Count our laughs, not our tears; Count our health and without fuss, Count on You and Your love for us. Amen

 15th SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

‘He began to send them out’

From the outset the Church was missionary. The disciples were sent-out by Jesus to others. Christianity is not a private religion. The prayers of the Mass and the dismissal at the end of the celebration are reminders to us of the outward thrust that must be at the heart of who we are. We strengthen our own faith by sharing it with others. We share it best through our witness. Notice how Jesus concentrates on the lifestyle of the disciples rather than on the message. Witness always speaks louder than words. From the beginning, the word of God has encountered opposition ranging from apathy to derision. St. Thomas Aquinas said that the four typical substitutes to God are pleasure, wealth, power and honour. These substitutes for God and His word have become increasingly evident in our land at this time and when God is lost people are ‘capable of anything’. The great Irishman, Frank Duff, founder of the Legion of Mary uttered prophetic words back in the 1920’s when he warned that inertia with regard to our faith leads, within two generations, to non-practice and within a further two generations to non-belief. The era of non-belief is with us. Witnesses are needed. Our mission is close to home.
