Shannonbridge Fishing Report……Dated August 8th 2005

The weather was generally good with an outbreak of rain on Thursday that dried up into a sunny weekend. Fishing visitors were again scarce and it was good to see nine coarse anglers arriving from Holland on Saturday. They have hired four lake boats to take them to their chosen swims.

One of our local anglers who is tall had his brother in law visit and they went night fishing on the River Shannon on August 4th.There was some light rain but they fished with maggot and caught over 100 Lbs of roach and hybrids and also ten bream with the best weighing 5 Lb.

The Taller fisherman’s regular fishing companion had a surprise catch on the River Suck on August 1st. He foul hooked in a keep net that contained 20 decent sized bream and one tench. The fish had been in the keep net for some time and only one bream and one tench was still alive

Dave Nap and Sue from Wigan completed their holiday. On August 3rd they paid a visit to the Hot Water stretch at Lanesboro and in sun, rain and wind they used red maggot and caster and recorded over 100 Lb of fish between them.

The next day they fished on the island just upstream from the bridge in Shannonbridge and there was rain all day. They fished with red maggot and had good sport catching roach and perch. They remarked that no pike attacked.

Clay Maselle from Durango, Colorado stopped off in the area for some fly fishing. He fished the River Suck for a short time on August 4th using pike flies with no success.

The next day he fished the Silver River in sunshine using Caddis Fly and Bead Head Nymph and in one hour over a half mile of bank side he caught seven small rainbow trout.

Best trout was a foot long.

The Kelly Family from Moore fished on the River Shannon on August 7th trolling spinners and caught seven jack pike in sunshine.

One of our Dutch visitors Hero Peer fished one of the Backwaters on August 7th and used maggot to catch 20 roach measuring 36 Cm on a warm sunny day..
