CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK (CSW), 26th January – 2nd February -This coming week we celebrate all that is good in our Catholic Schools’. The theme for this year’s celebrations comes from Pope Francis’ call to care for the earth and live in harmony with God’s creation. We take this opportunity to thank all those who make our schools such places of welcome to our children, principals, teachers and school staff, those who give of their time in a voluntary capacity to help with the governance of each school and above all the many parents who choose to send their children to Catholic Schools.

 THIRD  SUNDAY OF THE YEAR
He said to them, ‘Follow me’
The first disciples were called without promises, programmes or guarantees. Peter and Andrew were casting their nets in the lake when they were called by Jesus. James and John were mending their nets. In these two words the disciple’s map is laid out. We cast the nets whenever we show the face of Christ to the world. We mend the nets whenever we reach out to bind up hearts that are broken or bodies that are torn. It is not enough to know God. We must make Him known. My life as a Christian should make nonbelievers question their disbelief in God. Tennis legend Arthur Ashe used as his motto for sport and for life: ‘Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can’. As for the sportsman so for the disciple. We do what we can in His name to cast and to mend. The rest is in His hands.
Saturday 1st Feb: St Brigid (451-525) She was born in 451 or 452 at Faughart, near Dundalk, in Ireland. Her name is that of the pagan goddess of fire. She converted to Christanity, inspired by the preaching of St Patrick. She founded a double monastery, of monks and nuns, at Kildare, the first women’s monastic community in Ireland, and she died there in 525

Lord Of All Hopefulness
Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy. Whose trust ever childlike No cares could destroy. / Be there at our waking and give us we pray. / Your bliss in our hearts, Lord,
at the break of the day. / Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith. / Whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe. / Be there at our labours and give us we pray / Your strength in our hearts, Lord,/ At the noon of the day.
Christ Be Beside Me.
Christ be beside me, Christ be before me, /Christ be behind me, King of my heart,/ Christ be within me, Christ be below me,/ Christ be above me, never to part. Christ on my right hand, Christ on my left hand. / Christ all around me, Shield in the strife. / Christ in my sleeping, Christ in my sitting. / Christ in my rising, light of my life.
Let There Be Peace.
Let there be peace shared among us./ Let there be peace in our lives / May now your peace sweep this nation./
Cause us O Lord to arise/ Give us a fresh understanding,
Brotherly love that is real. / Let there be peace shared among us,/ Let there be peace.
