World Day of Migrants & Refugees - 14th Jan 2007
Today we are asked by the Holy Father to pray for Migrants & Refugees. The theme he has chosen for this year is 'The Migrant Family.' Our Gospel today sees Jesus among friends & family for a celebration. For many migrants family celebrations further highlight 'the hard trial of distance & solitude.' Our prayer today, in the words of the Holy Father 'means that the value of family is recognised, (in Migration) which is now a structural phenomenon in our society.'
????
Week of prayer for Christian Unity: begins Thurs 18th Jan, and continues until Thurs 25th Jan, feast of Conversion of St Paul.

Training Sessions to assist Ministers of the Word & Eucharist
The Bishop is anxious that Ministers of the Word & of the Eucharist be given some input & encouragement in their valued Ministry.
For this reason Training Sessions will be provided for this Deanery in the Knights of Columbanus Centre, at the front of St Mary's Church in Athlone, on the following dates:
Mon 29th Jan @ 8pm for Ministers of the Word
Tues 6th Feb @ 8pm for Ministers of the Word

Thurs 1st Feb @ 8pm for Ministers of the Eucharist
Thurs 8th Feb @ 8pm for Ministers of the Eucharist

These programmes were offered in Longford prior to Christmas, were well attended and found most helpful.
I would also encourage participation in any or all of the courses.
If you are able & willing to attend please let me know, ASAP, so that the necessary arrangements can be made.
The courses are free, and tea / coffee will be provided.
