Connacht Tribune tells us that in 2010 some 133 Calling Corncrakes (male) were recorded in Ireland this year.An increase of five on last year.On the mainland 91 were in Donegal,Mayo had 27, Sligo had 3 birds and the Shannon Callows had 3 birds. The others were heard crowing on the islands off the West Coast of Ireland.At this time they fly back to the Sahara for the winter.

Lady driving from Galway to Shannonharbour late on Thursday evening turned off her radio as she crossed the bridge in Shannonbridge.She heard an unusual sound and found that she had got a puncture.She was unable to change tyre so Donal Grennan and Karl Hoystead answered the call for help and quickly removed tyre and fitted the spare and away she went.Well done boys.

Bill Torpey from Philadelphia called in this week.Bill told us that a Henry Lyons from near The River Liffey in Dublin wrote a booktitled 'The Shannon River' or 'Abhainn na Sionnaine'
back in the mid 1960's.Henry used to read the news in Irish on radio or TV.
Henry had a brother John Lyons who was a priest with the S.M.A.He was killed in Nigeria in 1967.Now the connection with all this and Bill ?.
Bill Torpey's Grandmother was a McKee and Henry Lyons was a nephew.

Babby Colohan, nee Spelman, from Clonfert died on 19th September.May she rest in peace.
