Intermediate Football Championship.
Shannonbridge qualified for the Semi Final of the Intermediate Championship, overcoming Rhode by 2-9 to 0-7, at Mucklagh, on Sunday. Rhode were first to score, having two points on the board, before Paul Deeley opened Shannonbridge’s account after eight minutes. They were still in arrears 0-3 to 0-4, when Dermot Turley and Rhode’s Gareth Hickey were dismissed after twenty minutes. Shannonbridge got a lift from a monster point, from a free, by Anthony Kelly before Eamon Kelly, who had moved to full forward in a switch with Trevor Mahon, laid on a defence splitting pass for his brother Declan to score a goal on twenty seven minutes. Half time score 1-5 to 0-5. Rhode were again first to score after the break and but for a shot that hit the angle of the post and cross-bar and, somehow, stayed out and a couple of fine saves by Liam Griffin would have taken the lead. Shannonbridge upped their game as the half wore on and the best score of the day was a point in the twenty second minute by Karol Kelly, after Kieran Flannery, Anthony Kelly and Colm Kenny were involved in a movement that covered the length of the field. Shannonbridge closed the scoring when a Trevor Mahon ‘forty five’ was dispatched to the net by Karol Kelly. They will now meet Durrow in the Semi-Final. Team: Liam Griffin, Willie Keena, Niall Price, Mel Darcy, Shane Flannery, Rory O’Connor, Dermot Turley, Eamon Kelly, Conor Killeen, Paul Moloney, Anthony Kelly (0-1, free), Kieran Flannery (0-1), Paul Deeley (0-6, 4 frees), Trevor Mahon, Declan Kelly (1-0).
