Tony Buckley,Tullamore was fishing on the Shannon near Shannonbridge. He put the keys of his car on his line as an extra weight while fishing for pike. And it worked.A pike took the bait and the line broke. The kind pike left the keys.

Visiting Clonmacnois last Sunday the sister Doc and our cousin Maureen noticed a bird flying near a tree. They had a look and saw a birds nest with four fledglings.

This week Joerg and Wodi Falkeusee Germany arrived to revisit Shannonbridge by boat. One of their first enquiries was for Moby our dog who they always brought for walks everytime they were in Shannonbridge. They were saddened to hear that Moby had died.Joerg had some fancy dog treats for Moby in his pocket. They showed us a number of photos of Moby including one of him standing alongside a pint of Guinness. He was a professional dog actor of course.

Reading the bits of information on the walls at Clonmacnois Visitor Center last Sunday. One that caught my eye was that in 1070 the head of Conchubar ua Maeil-Scheechlainn was forcibly carried from Clonmacnois by Toirdelblach, who was compelled to return it,for he was smitten with a miraculous disease, imparted to him by a mouse that issued from the head and ran under his garment.

Old Cures
Foul Foot in cattle.Cattle suffering from a rotten hoof.Dig up the track where the animal walked and turn it upside down.No need for a vet says Patrick Kenny.

To cure ringworm in cattle burnt oil was used.

Wart Cure.Get a snail and stick it through the thorn on a blackthorn tree.

Relic of Saint Theresa was used for a variety of cures.

Clay from St.Ciaran's Church Clonmacnois mixed with the seed or shook in the four corners of the field used as a cure for wireworm.
