Intermediate Football Championship.
Shannonbridge narrowly lost out to Durrow in a well contested first round game at Ballycumber on Friday evening. In ideal conditions, this was a tight contest all through with the teams level on six occasions. Shannonbridge opened with four points in the first twelve minutes from Karol Kelly, Paul Deeley (2) and Darragh Corbett, who was making his intermediate championship debut, scoring a great point from near the corner flag. Shannonbridge led at half time by 0-7 to 0-6. Conor Killeen replaced the injured Trevor Mahon at the interval. They increased the margin to two with points from Deeley, John Egan and Corbett going into the last quarter. However Durrow hit back to level at ten points each, their second score rattling off the crossbar and over. A great point by Kieran Flannery was soon followed by the decisive score of the game, a goal for Durrow in the twenty third minute. Shannonbridge hit back with points from Kieran Flannery and top scorer Deeley but two late points closed the game for Durrow with the final score 0-13 to 1-12. Not a win, but a good team performance that gives plenty of positives for the campaign ahead.
