Big news for the area yesterday was the immediate closure of two of the Boiler / Turbine units at the old power plant and the remaining unit to shut down by the end of the month. This was a change in plan from a final shutdown in June. It was like a wake last evening as Unit 1 stopped after 40 years service. The new West Offaly power plant is scheduled to come on load before the end of the year.
