Noticed a snippet on the Irish Mail that The Late Late Show has been
broadcast for over 47 years, making it the longest-running chat show
in television history. The first episode aired in 1962 live from
RTE'sStudio 1.The Late Late Show's first host,Gay Byrne,had the job
for the first 37 years of its life.
I was reading this while listening to the same Gay Byrne present his
two hour show on Lyric FM (97.8 - 99.4MHz) which he presents on Sunday
from 2.00pm until 4.00pm until the end of April.
On todays programme Gay was remembering interviewing Patrick O Hagan
and his son Johnny Logan on the Late Late Show.Patrick had become a
charismatic and The Holy Ghost used to descend on him.During these
times Patrick went silent. And it happened on the Late Late Show.
Gay continued the interview and after the show Shay Healy remarked
to Gay that this must be a first. To have Father,Son and Holy Ghost
on the Late Late Show.
People contact the show with requests <> and it was
good to hear a request to play 'Up a lazy river' for Pat Killeen.
Gay mentioned that Vic would be 107 today and I assume he meant one
Victor Sylvester.
A request for Kay Duddy, Portumna was sent in by her sister which was
read out and played.About an hour later there was another request from
the sister asking for a mention for Kay as she had not heard the first
request.
Gay was at the new run of 'Philadelphia Here I Come'which is now on
in Dublin.Like myself he was at the original production in 1964 with
Paddy Bedford and the late Donal Donnelly acting the inner and outer
parts of the one character.
Gay had an interesting popular list of Irish expressions that get
Googled on the internet including Cute Hoor, Donkeys Ears,Arseways
and Eat your head off. Sorry but I missed the first ones.
Catch him live on Sunday from two to four Irish time.

Paddy bedford as you call him, (Patrick Bedford) went to America a number of years gao, and died while over there. nice comments about the Gay show. The Gaiety is not the best theatre for plays as opposed to music hall stuff
