Random thoughts from a recent visit to Kenya.

Recently, I paid a return visit to my parish in Kenya in the company of a retired Primary School Principal, called Joe.

Kenya as you may know is in East Africa divided almost equally by the equator north and south. Hence there is always equal day and equal night. Kenya is about seven times the size of Ireland. It is divided into seven provinces and then into about forty districts - something similar to our provinces and counties. It is bordered by Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan and Uganda, Lake Victoria, Tanzania and the Pacific Ocean to the east.

Its capital is Nairobi, a city of about three million inhabitants. Other important cities are Mombasa on the coast, Kisumu on Lake Victoria, Nakuru and Eldorete. Our destination was Misikhu in western Province. This is situated near the slopes of Mount Elgon, not far from the Ugandan border, about two hundred and eighty miles from Nairobi. More later……..
