Rose Ryan lent me a pricelist from P.& H. Egan, Ltd Tullamore dated January 1948 with the prices in Shillings / Pence per dozen.Here are a few samples-
Minerals = 3/4 per doz. Soda Water = 7/0 . Guinness Large XX = 13 /6
Ginger Wine = 30/0. Powers Whiskey = 265/0. Brandy 376/6. Port 156/0.
Altar Wine= 92/0. Small Soda Water=2/0 per dozen.
Egans had their main base in Tullamore and operated 15 pubs and shops in the Midlands as well as owning Dooly's Hotel in Birr. They were involved in shipping tea wine and brandy and were wholesale bottlers,malsters,provision merchants,corn buyers,builders providers,hardware,sawmills,ironmongery,furniture,seeds and manures,growers and exporters of certified seed potatoes.
Their nearest outlets were Ferbane and Banagher and were in direct competition with D.E.Williams in many towns and services.
