A great two weeks fishing holiday finishes today for Simon Preece and John Phillips from South Wales who came to Shannonbridge mainly for a pike fishing holiday but ended up in a wide variety of good fish being caught and released and good friendships being founded.Their best pike was 21.5 lbs with others weighing 18, 14, 12, 10,10 and many single figure ones.Best bream was 6.5 lbs, best perch 3.5 lbs, best tench 3 lbs and lots of good roach and hybrids. No wonder they have booked a return visit for next year staying with Patti Corbett at Rachra House.Catches from this area can be found under the Coarse and Pike report section at www.shannon-fishery-board.ie
Long time visitor to this area is George Stokes Leeds who arrived at the weekend and as well as catching fish sings a number of songs with his favourite being The Fields of Athenry.Hope Paudge Bennett gets him to sing tonight and Wednesday. Bet Lorraine from Pottstown would like to hear them. She is looking forward to hearing Ciara and Sarah talking Aussie for the next while.
Bit of Shannonbridge past played music in Shannonbridge when Noel Kirby from Castletown played his saxaphone. Noel was one time leader of The Kerbstones and as well as playing music in this area back in the early sixties he was one of the Mick Kirby contractors who built Saint Ciarans Park housing and the group of four houses opposite the church now occupied by Thornhills, Devines, Ryans and Keohanes.
